Case Study: The Braithwaite Gallery

Independent art gallery and shop, The Braithwaite Gallery was founded in 2000 by Anne Braithwaite and her husband and artist, Mark Braithwaite. Initially located inside the Stonegate Antiques Centre, the gallery moved to its home in Low Petergate in 2002, just a stone’s throw away from York Minster.

When the Pandemic struck in 2020, Anne and Mark quickly realised they needed to look outside of the local area for customers and needed to be selling online, which kickstarted their digital journey, and they now sell their stunning collection of artwork all over the world.

Previously relying on dial-up connection to the internet, the Gallery, like many other York businesses, struggled with incredibly slow broadband speeds and constant dropouts, often meaning that it took minutes for customers to make a purchase and it was nearly impossible for Anne to upload anything to the Gallery’s website.
