Case Study: Survive charity now powered by Full Fibre broadband

Survive is a North Yorkshire-based charity. It delivers specialist, trauma-specific support to adult survivors of rape, sexual assault and child sexual abuse.

Survivors founded Survive in York in 1990, originally as a support group for women who had experienced child abuse. Three decades later, the charity now supports all adults across York and North Yorkshire who have experienced sexual violence.

Survive’s office sits on Micklegate, in York city centre. From there, the team helps survivors heal, rebuild and thrive.

The Challenge

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Survive invested heavily in technology. This let the charity keep supporting survivors remotely. Since then, around 50% of service users connect remotely, either online or by phone.

Because of this, Survive needs a fast, stable connection for every video and phone appointment.

Like many businesses in historic York city centre, Survive battled a slow internet connection. Minimal bandwidth made multiple, concurrent online counselling sessions difficult. That’s where Fastr Broadband stepped in to help with ultrafast full fibre broadband.

The Switch to Fastr

Fastr Broadband has given Survive a free connection for two years, to help the charity go Fastr. As a result, speeds now reach up to 1000 Mbps.

The Results

Survive has noticed a huge difference in digital connectivity:

  • Support for up to seven survivors online at the same time
  • No dropped calls, so survivors and staff can keep their cameras on
