Case Study: Survive
Survive is a North Yorkshire based charity delivering specialist services and trauma-specific interventions to adult survivors of rape, sexual assault and child sexual abuse. Founded in York in 1990 as a survivor-led support group for women who had been subjected to child abuse, three decades later, the charity now supports all adults in York and across North Yorkshire who have been subject to sexual violence.
Survive’s office, located on Micklegate in York city centre, offer their services to those in need, helping them heal, rebuild and thrive.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Survive invested heavily in technology to allow them to continue supporting survivors remotely. Since then, around 50% of those who access their services do so remotely, either online or over the phone. Because of this, it is vital that they have a fast, stable and reliable internet connection during online appointments, which are conducted over video and telephone calls
Like many businesses within historic York’s city centre, they were battling with a very slow internet connection and struggling with minimal bandwidth to allow for multiple, concurrent online counselling sessions. This is where Fastr broadband offered to help.
Fastr broadband has supplied Survive with a free broadband connection for two years to help the charity go Fastr and enhance the online services they offer. With ultrafast speeds of up to 1000 Mbps, Survive has noticed a significant difference in their digital connectivity and can now work with up to seven survivors simultaneously online in the safe knowledge that calls will not drop out and cameras can stay on.
Speaking of their new Fastr Broadband connection, CEO of Survive, Mags Godderidge said: “We have been struggling with our internet connection in Micklegate for a while and are incredibly grateful to Fastr for providing us with their full fibre broadband network free-of-charge. It has been a game changer and helped us to provide more reliable and better quality online counselling sessions simultaneously, which is so important!”
Speaking of the network roll-out, Pete Evans, Director, Fastr Broadband, said: “We are thrilled to be able to support Survive as we celebrate our network build reaching Micklegate as we complete our roll-out across the city.
Homes and businesses located within York’s city walls, can now access the fastest broadband they’ve never had and just like Survive will see a transformative difference in their connectivity, call streaming and overall daily internet usage/experience – which is exactly what we set out to achieve.”
