A Taste of York

Rob and the team behind Days are no strangers to hospitality. They run a successful mobile drink business and decided to put some more permanent roots down and buy two cafés to nurture and grow long-term.

Since taking the business over in January 2025, they’ve done a full refurb and refreshed their brunch and lunch menu. They partner with local food heroes to supply food, cakes and beers, to maintain a local feel and reduce their carbon footprint.

The Challenge

Running a café is busy work: staff management, stock ordering, food hygiene compliance and, increasingly, digital marketing. The owners have moved almost everything online, from Dropbox and Google Drive to social media.

Their previous broadband connection was slow, expensive, and simply couldn’t keep up with day-to-day operations. So much so, they couldn’t let customers use the Wi-Fi. 

With card payments now the norm, their terminals and tills struggled to sync, causing real stress, occasional lost sales and frustration for staff and customers alike. 

The Fastr Solution

Rob first used Fastr Broadband’s Wi-Fi for his drinks stall at York Christmas Market and was impressed with the speeds and ease of use, and no more chasing customers for failed payments! So, when a personal recommendation came from the cafe’s marketing manager’s dad (a local hair salon owner and Fastr customer), they decided to make the switch at both cafes.

Days was also the first Fastr Broadband customer to take a VoIP service (Voice over Internet Protocol). This allowed them to do away with the old copper phone line to the property and use the Fastr Broadband connection to make and take business phone calls.

The Results

  • Supported the move to digital operations to free up time and reduce stress.
  • Marketing made easier now, uploading videos and photos for social media is simple.
  • Customer experience improved with faster service and fewer hiccups; they can even let them use the Wi-Fi.

Rob said: 

I was prepared for a tricky Installation, as one of our buildings is grade II listed, but Fastr’s engineers were great, they found a solution quickly and got the cafés up and running in no time.

It’s a domino effect. With better internet and an integrated phone service, we can now achieve everything else on our to-do list, but good broadband was a priority.
